Five Ten Fifteen Twenty…

Filed under: Non Sequiters for $500 Alex — qualifiedcondition @ 7:25 pm

Yesterday I was talking about how my sister taught me my times tables when I was in Kindergarten (thanks Wendy).  By no means did this send me on some fast track for mathematical brilliance, but I at least knew how to sing my twos, threes and fours out loud.  So long as we don’t have to divide any of these by fractions of anything else, or start involving Greek letters or Klingon symbols math is just a little song.  And as I was telling the story yesterday, I realized that fives, for whatever reason, have the best cadence.  Twos sound really dorky and perky (yeah, yeah, who do we appreciate), fours make you sound like a robot, but only the fives can make you sound like an 8 year old black girl doing double dutch.

Say them out loud.  If you haven’t gotten into a full body bounce by “twenty five” then there’s probably something wrong with you.  Consequently you should stay away from braids.  And have someone else balance your checkbook.  You suck at math.

  1. would you believe i have a huge gap in between my memorization of the times tables… from 6-9 i don’t remember much. 5’s are really the best though. oh and 10’s because they’re easy.

  2. And so I was saying … My favorite number to multiply has always been 9, at least since I learned that part of the times table, because the numbers in the result always add back up to 9. Ta da!

  3. Who knew that I would suck at math so much, after giving it my all back in the day. I have a second chance now though, Just wait till Lucas gets to kindergarten.
