They Say It’s My Birthday!

Filed under: Uncategorized — qualifiedcondition @ 7:14 pm

Around 8:45 this morning I turned 31!  Hooray!

My first official birthday treat came to me at Cafe de Leche this morning on the way to work.  Usually, when asked if I would like room for cream I always promptly reply “No thank you” (usually in such a way that politely indicates that under no circumstances would I sully my coffee with cream because evidently I have some kind of chip on my shoulder about this sort of thing which I’m sure is more obnoxious than endearing.  Nevertheless…).

Today, however, I joked that I would like a little room so that it doesn’t spill in the car or on the train.  I really hate how car cupholders and the little hand-break well become a sticky brown coffee lagoon if you’re not careful.  To my unbridled delight, the barista pointed at a bowl filled with little plastic lid stoppers to avert spills.  I can never go back.

To whomever invented this little wasteful plastic treasure… a million thank yous.

Just one question: What do we call this thing?

  1. I love those things! The coffee shop by my house is stingy with them- they only give you one if you’re obviously buying a coffee for someone else, and transporting it to them.

  2. “Cup plug”?

Happy birthday! I hope to be buying you drinks very soon!

  3. Java Jammer? Coffee Cork? Maybe we should just call it a G.O.B., guy.
Your doohickey is pretty cool, but my current favorite coffee accessory is the keychain sleeve. It protects your hands from the hot cup, but it’s re-usable and enviro-friendly.

  4. I’m sending you a half dozen reuseable travel mugs, geesh! Sometimes I really doubt your commitment to the environment.

    • I have tried the travel mug thing and I usually end up with a handful of disgusting moldy travel mugs on my desk at work. The environment is going to have to suck it on this one.
